About this course
Code Crew Grade 5 caps the K-5 line. Kids meet recursion through concrete pictures first, then compare loops and recursion in Python. They walk through linear and binary search, selection sort and merge sort on paper and in code, and count nodes in a tree. The last two weeks plan and build a capstone program in pieces, with a rubric for the grown-up.
Kids will
- Understand recursion through a concrete visual analogy
- Convert a recursive solution to a loop (and back)
- Explain why binary search is faster than checking one by one
- Walk through merge sort step by step on paper
- Count the nodes of a simple tree with recursion
- Plan, build and test a capstone program in parts
